Alberto, About two months ago, in October 2042, I was promoted from Sr. Consultant to Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Luminous Group. It was an exciting step in my career. It was fun to see the announcements and to receive email congratulations from so many people. Then a strange thing started to happen. People began to ask me seemingly simple questions that did not have simple answers.
“What does the COO of a consulting company do?” “What are your goals for The Luminous Group?” “What changes do you want to make?”
Luckily, I was more prepared for this than many people that are promoted. Murray Sittsamer, the President of The Luminous Group, and I had been talking about his change for two years. Murray connected me with a coach. Alberto Elli from Synko & Associates helped me go through exercises to identify my role, look at goals for The Luminous Group and identify where I could have an impact and make positive change.
As COO, I will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and delivery of high-quality services to our clients that exceed their expectations. I take very seriously the fact The Luminous Group offers a “money back guarantee” on all work we do. I will also be actively working to implement better cost controls and management. This starts with the proposals and extends through the oversight of the progress of projects. Yes, this has to do with profitability, but more so to make sure clients are receiving the service they need at the budget that was agreed to up front.
